The importance of environmental conservation has been increasingly recognized during the past decades. It is now generally accepted that economic development strategies must be compatible with environmental protection goals.
It is very important to make choices and decisions that will eventually promote sound development by understanding environmental functions and contributions.

In Uganda, the environment has been degraded through various ways over time; deforestation to carry out agriculture, industrialization, and settlement, population pressure due to overpopulation, unsustainable agricultural practices, overconsumption among others.
There have been enormous consequences of environmental degradation including; increased poverty, famine, weather extremes, plants, and animal species loss, acute chronic illness, wars among others.
At LDRU we work with communities and local government departments to educate the masses about the dangers of environmental degradation and its adverse impact.

We train and facilitate communities to practice that sustain the environment.
Distribute solar lights to reduce the use of fuel that pollutes the environment.
Firewood is the main source of energy in Africa and Uganda in particular. We have encouraged and support communities to use energy-saving stoves, recycle some recyclable waste into charcoal to provide energy for cooking.
Educated masses about proper waste disposal
Facilitated and encouraged re-afforestation-tree planting through free distribution of free tree seedlings
Campaigning against deforestation- cutting down trees for agriculture and settlement
Reduction of environmental pollution through recycle and reuse. Limited use of plastic bags. Use of factory filters for factory chimney, turn off lights when not in use
